Linear Ion Trap
Linear ion traps are low-resolution mass spectrometers with high sensitivity and fast scan rates. They are ideal for monitoring low-abundance analytes in complex background matrices such as serum and plasma. MZ Biolabs has a Thermo Scientific LTQ Velos Pro linear ion trap mass spectrometer paired with a Waters nanoAcquity HPLC.
Detection levels down to 5 pg/ml are frequently achieved using this instrument combination, making it ideal for pharmacokinetic studies. This instrumentation is operated under Good Laboratory Practice, ensuring the utmost reliability of the data generated.
QTOF
QTOF (quadrupole time of flight) mass spectrometers are medium—to high-resolution instruments used to accurately measure the molecular weight of small molecules and proteins. MZ Biolabs has three Bruker Compact QTOF mass spectrometers for accurate measurement of small molecules and peptides with a resolution of 20,000, or around two decimal places. This higher degree of accuracy ensures accurate identification. Optional ms2 level fragmentation can also help confirm molecule structure and peptide sequences.
HPLC
MZ Biolabs exclusively uses Waters Acquity UPLC series HPLC equipment. Our QTOF mass spectrometers are paired with Acquity UPLCs which utilize UV detection for purity testing. Additionally, we use a variety of HPLC columns, including C8, C18, HILIC, and Amide, allowing us to properly test many classes of small molecules and peptides.
Our Thermo LTQ Velos Pro mass spectrometer is paired with a nanoAcquity which operates between 100 nanoliters and 5 microliters per minute, increasing sensitivity by several orders of magnitude over typical HPLC flow rates. This combination of HPLC and mass spectrometer allows for the detection of analytes down to 5 pg/ml.
